GSA

I gave my last speech as a member of our GSA today. It's incredible to realize the difference it's made at our school since my friend and I restarted last year.

I gave a speech today to all our members about my departure, and passing on the rainbow torch.

I have tears in my eyes from the from the comments our members made today about the support they've received from this club over the last year and a half.

One girl stood up at the end and told us she came out to her mother on Tuesday. She said that if it wasn't for the GSA, she wouldn't have had the courage.

Another boy told us how much he appreciates being a club where people aren't shocked that he's gay but looks like a "normal" person and not a stereotype. He pointed out that it's nice to be with a group of people who understand that gay doesn't have cookie cutter caricature that everyone must fit into to be labeled as such.

Some people who never come were present at the meeting today. A conservative Catholic girl was so moved by everyone's accounts of their experiences in the GSA that she told my friend with tears in her eyes that she was sorry she hadn't come sooner and intended to return.

These kinds of events are what keep me going.

Inclusivity is awesome.

If The Fish Swam Out of The Ocean

I recommend that everyone listen to "Black and Gold" by Sam Sparro. I've added it to my playlist at the bottom. There's something about this song that makes me want to grove.

I first heard it at our fine arts assembly at school when some members of dance company performed a number to it. I was reminded of it again on Saturday when I went to see the Dance Invitational at our school. It was really quite good, although the other schools were a lot better than us. My friend who I went to see did a good job making me laugh during her group numbers though.

Anyways, I youtubed it and saw that it was also featured in the dance movie Fame which I have yet to see.

Putting that on movie list.

Here's to seven more days of school until I can go on my alternative route.

OH, I had a spectacular last Comedy Sportz match. I'm really grateful to everyone who game, and especially to my parents who videotaped it and all my team members who made the night really memorable. Just positively stupendous. The ref sucked but the opposing team was nice and I managed to make both Batman and Harry Potter references, growl at the audience, and shake my butt at them. All in all, a successful night.

So Here It Goes

Dear Blog, it's me, 17,

Nice lag in updating on my part. Who knew 17 could be so busy?

Well I guess I should talk about my birthday...:)

Or I guess I could show you!
As you might have suspected, it was Harry Potter themed.

I woke up in the morning, blind as a bat, with a package in front of me that read "You will need these to find your way." I think it's safe to say that I have the best parents in
the world? Inside were a pair of Harry Potter glasses from the Noble Collection. My parents went trigger happy on their cameras as I happily dashed to retrieve contacts to wear under my new wicked frames. I was then led around the house on a scavenger hunt to find many fantastic
treasures from my favorite alternate universe. What an incredible way to turn seventeen! The following photos are all of my wonderful loot. I'm going to need a vault in
Gringotts complete with a three headed guard dog named Fluffy! :) Maybe a Hungarian Horntail or a nice Welsh Gr
een....

There is nothing in the world I relish more than being a Harry Potter fan girl. I wear this badge with pride.

A big THANK YOU to my parents who made this day extremely special for me.

I will put more photos up in the next post since I'm having issues uploading them to Blogger right now. Consider the next post as a the next part of this one in which I disclose more of my birthday adventures.

Sincerely,

EPIPHANY

Guess what guys? I was born on epiphany. The only epiphany my mother ever had.

-17

So close.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh, I'm getting close, closer, closing on the hour.

Seventeen, here I come. This year has only just begone.

-17

Techinically, I'm sixteen.

Yes, I know. The name of this blog is so misleading isn't it? Only for a couple more hours though.

I'm one for irony, and this seems like a fitting way to end my career as a sixteen year old: starting a blog about documenting my seventeenth year. Because tonight I was thinking about things I wish I had done at 16. I came to the conclusion that I really just should have wrote a little bit more of it down.

So here's to 2010!
